It's Friday's headline brief, heavy on news, light on analysis, launching us into the weekend with events that, as ever, are shaping America and the world.

We begin with domestic news this morning, starting with the fallout of the Trump tariff plan.

Oh boy, there was a lot.

U.S. stock markets tanked yesterday with the Dow Jones and S&P off 4% and 5% respectively.

But as Market Watch reported, your view of that sell-off largely depends on your politics.

Trump supporters see it as a short-term bit of pain for long-term gain.

For Democrats, however, it is just another reason to hate the president.

Speaking of that, President Trump acknowledged the market volatility yesterday,

though promised that things would get better, the market will boom down the road.

And that could be true based on some two early reactions by the car companies, GM and Volvo.

Reuters is reporting that GM is dramatically ramping up their truck production at their facility

in Indiana, specifically because of these latest tariffs from the Trump White House.

They are now hiring new workers and adding overtime hours.

Meanwhile, the Chinese-owned company called Volvo said that they are expanding their operations at their plant in South Carolina further than expected.

Unfortunately, though, the Chrysler and Jeep producing company of Stalantis announced yesterday that they are going to lay off hundreds of workers temporarily in this country in response to the Trump tariffs.

Union officials, though, say that there's probably some dirty pool going on with that

announcement. The layoffs really aren't necessary. It's probably just a company choice,

perhaps as a political act against the president.
