Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim. Today is Thursday, April 17th, 2025. And we begin with

a super sniffing, life-saving rodent working to change the bad rap on rats. Ronan, a five-year-old

African giant pouched rat, has set a new world record for the most landmines detected by a rat.

Between August 2021 and February 2025,

his super sense of smell uncovered more than 109 underground explosives in Cambodia,

according to the Guinness World Records. Landmines are often left behind from wars and can

pose a threat to innocent civilians. They are notoriously difficult to

detect unless you're Ronan. Rats reportedly possess high intelligence speed and a super

sniffer that makes them masters at identifying explosives. It also helps that they are too light to

trigger them, even though Ronan is actually quite large for a rat at two feet

long and more than two and a half pounds. Ronan is one of more than 100 rats trained by

landmine detectors, and according to his handler, is a testament to the incredible potential of rats.

Time magazine has revealed its 2025 Time 100 list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and the honorees run the gamut.

Five of them are featured on separate worldwide covers.

They are actor and producer Demi Moore, artist and entrepreneur Snoop Dog, tennis player and business owner

Serena Williams, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, and co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind,

Demis Hasabas. Times CEO Jessica Sibley says the list in its 22nd year recognizes the

leaders shaping the world today and defining its future. It features people

from 32 countries and includes everyone from athletes to politicians to business leaders to entertainers.

President Donald Trump made the cut for the seventh time. Twenty-two-year-old Olympic swimmer Leon

Marchand is the youngest on this year's list. Eighty-four-year-old advisor of Bangladesh, Mohamed Eunice, is the oldest.
