Summary

Welcome to the new weekly American Birding Podcast!

Jennifer Ackerman is the New York Times best-selling author and essayist who wrote The Genius of Birds and a great many other science books. Her newest, out this week, is The Bird Way: A New Look at how Birds Talk, Work, Play, Parent, and Think. It's a companion to that much loved earlier book, exploring the many creative, novel, and bizarre ways in which birds approach problems that they face and what they says about bird cognition and intelligence.

Also, a Cedar Waxwing story from Karina Li of Big Sky, Montana.

I can see that you're confused.

0:53.2

But Nate, I can hear you asking, it's sort of a dull roar I can hear on the horizon. We just had an episode last week. We're not supposed to hear from you for another seven days. This is, this is too much. It is too much bird content. I can't, I can't handle all this bird content. Oh no, my friends, you're going to

But I had been wanting to go weekly for some time since, gee, since the beginning of this thing. I felt like there was enough

1:44.4

bird content out there to do so. And since we have gotten actually pretty good at streamlining

1:50.4

production, and since we're all at home and not traveling or otherwise doing other things,

1:55.3

as sort of a side note this week, I'd normally be at the biggest week in Ohio, getting my face
