when, after a dramatic few days, MPs found something they could all agree about.

What a nice way to end this week.

A former Deputy Prime Minister offers to pull back the curtain on how government works.

There were several occasions when I was advised by civil servants to knowingly break the law.

And we hear from a grieving father who's campaigning to change the law on multi-story car parks.

Nothing's going to change what happened on that night,

but what we can do is effect change to make sure that no family has to suffer the way that we have.

But first, in November, as MPs trooped out of the Commons, having just held their first vote on the bill

which would legalise assisted dying in England and Wales, a Liberal Democrat MP and vet, Dr Danny Chambers,

was given five minutes to make the case for a crackdown on pet smuggling.

Now his private members bill has cleared the commons and is on its way to the Lords after it was given final approval without a vote.

Danny Chambers said his proposals would ban the importing of puppies and kittens under six months old,

as well as heavily pregnant dogs and cats.

As a vet, I've seen the devastating consequences of puppy smuggling.

It's unimaginary cruel to separate puppies and kittens from their mothers at a very young age and then bring them across

borders and substandard conditions where they're then sold for maximum profit by unscrupulous

traders who prioritise profit over welfare. The animal welfare bill would also ban the importing

of dogs and cats that have been mutilated
