Today's expression is to tide someone over.

Oh boy.

This sounds like another difficult expression.

Tiding over.

To tide over. T-I-D- well this word does actually come from ocean tide we have what we call low tide and high tide so if a ship goes to a city like london at low tide

it will not be able to go close to the city because the water is too low in the ocean but if the ship

comes at a different time at high tide, the ship can sail

closer to London because the water is higher. I think London is a bad example. But anyway, that's the

idea. Low tide and high tide. In a river or in a lake, we don't see low tide and high tide, but in the ocean they do.

The water is low, the water is high.

So this is a very old expression, and when they said it in the beginning, they would say, we will tide over here.

And that means they will rest their ship over here where the water is deep, because over there,

the water is not deep enough. So it was like a resting area waiting until the water supply

comes back. And that's how we use the expression today. So I'll give you an example. I don't need water.

I need money. We all need money. So every month at the beginning, I pay myself a salary. And I pay, I'm very strict. I give myself this much money, a thousand dollars. I give myself more than a thousand dollars, but a thousand

dollars. But that one thousand dollars must pay for everything for the entire month. It has to pay

for my rent, my internet bill, my electricity, my health insurance, my food, everything.
