Hello and welcome back. You are listening to Redirected a show where we sit down with celebrities,

0:12.1

athletes and entrepreneurs to hear about their career pivots and how they've dealt with life's

0:17.2

unexpected events. My name is Andrew East and the reason I started this show is because I have

0:23.2

experienced several career redirections myself, a graduated undergraduate with all intention of

0:29.0

starting a non-profit organization to bring water to people around the world. I ended up getting

0:34.2

picked up by the National Football League. Today we have a very special unique episode. Last week I

0:40.8

ran the Boston Marathon. It was grueling. I felt good through 15 miles and then hit a wall and

0:47.9

was humbled to say the least. And I ran the marathon with and because Cliff Barr, who has tons of

different organizations and charities that they were part of and I wanted to help support those.

And as part of this collaboration with Cliff Barr, they allowed me to do a series of interviews

live at the Boston Marathon Expo in front of crowds and crowds of people. And so this is the first

of that series and today I sit down with Scott Jurick, who is an amazing athlete and I had zero

1:15.1

intention or belief that I could run the Boston Marathon before I met Scott. And Scott instilled in

1:21.0

me a sense of confidence and belief that I could in fact run the marathon as a 240 pound football

1:28.4

player. Scott has run Ultra Marathon for the past couple of decades and has been wildly successful

1:34.8

at it. At the top of his resume, he won the Western States Ultra Marathon 100 mile race. Seven years

1:43.8

in a row, the same seven years actually that Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France. And Scott has

1:50.8

also participated in tons of other races including the Badwater, Leadville and a 24 hour race where

1:58.0

they sound the gun and see how far he can run in 24 hours. So Scott has also written two books,

2:03.5

the first being Eat and Run where he chronicles his entry into Ultra Marathons and how he balances

2:10.4

that with his vegan diet. And the second book is called North and it's all about him breaking the

2:17.4

record for completing the Appalachian Trail, which he did in 46 days. And exciting news, North
