Today, we are going to be just dripping with metaphors over here.

I am taking some scouts, 11 of them on a 50-miler down to southeast Utah and it's pretty a pretty remote area it's called Dark

Canyon Wilderness when I'm talking to parents I've been calling it the

Lollipop loop just to kind of sell it a little better but we're

getting all squared away and we've got freeze-dried food I've got a new backpack

that I wish I would have had time to break in couldn Couldn't fit all my stuff in my other pack.

So I got a big backpack, and we've got the food pack,

and I've just been kind of going over and over and over

and over the list, just trying to be really thorough and we've been

double checking all the boys and going over their lists making sure they've

got everything they need and you just can't help but think that preparing for a

week in the wilderness will you'll be tracking 50 miles,

is a lot like your monthly budget meeting.

You're looking ahead, you're trying to anticipate the terrain, the water, elevation, the temperature. And anyway, so I've

been thinking a lot about that. Water was our first concern,

and it's the first thing we address, obviously.

When you think about your budget,

first concerns probably shelter and food, right?

Keeping the lights on, keeping the kids fed fed keeping clothing on their backs in the United States

that is pretty darn easy and I'm what I mean by that is we have very few people that are starving, that are dehydrated,
