I have wondered how I would end up finishing my career, my life, wondering what I would even look like when I was my age now.

Well, here I am. And through those years, I have wondered how my life can be shaped

to a point to where when I am the age I am, I would be happy with it. I've kept it kind of simple

so that I have a clear vision and keep the clear vision of what life

is really all about.

When I was in grammar school, all the kids in the neighborhood would go up to the local

little store, corner store, and buy these 10 cent kites.

That didn't intrigue me to go up and buy a kite and do that.

I wanted to see if I could just take some sticks

from the field and some string and some newspaper and some flour and water and asked my mother if she

had any old sheets that I could tear up and use for a tail. And I could fly that thing as high

and as good as they could fly their real light kites that they bought at the store.

And besides that, it didn't cost me 10 cents. It was free.

At a young age, I got off on making things that worked.

So when it came to surfboards, I didn't look for somebody to make me a board.

I wanted to make it myself.

And if it worked, boy, that was really neat to me.

It started in 1952.

First I started out catching the foam,

catching the soup into the beach.

And I thought, gosh, you know, I'm standing.

I'm standing.
