The month of August is Funny Drummers Month.

I'm talking to funny people who drum all month long. I want to play something for you.

I want to write a down for you by the chant, featuring my guest Todd Barry on drums.

Over the past 30 years, Todd has established himself as one of the most unique, skillful,

and astute comics of his generation.

Todd's understated delivery combined with the gargantuan sense of self-confidence made his unique observations of force to be reckoned with from an early age.

In addition to his work as a stand-up, Todd has also appeared in beloved films like Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler and award-winning TV shows such as Louis and Flight of the Concordes.

But before he pursued comedy seriously, Todd, in spite of the self-deprecating comments he'll make during the interview, was a serious drummer, touring and recording with popular Florida band The Chant.

An avid music fan, Todd maintains close ties to the music community,

which has led to opportunities for him to sit in with bands like Yoletango and Superchunk.

Todd's latest comedy special, CrowdWork, is a fully improvised set

based on his interactions with several audiences over the course of a tour.

It's now available for streaming on Netflix and for purchase at louis K.net.

When did you start playing drums?

Maybe around 14.

And did you connect with the instrument right away?

I still don't think I've connected.
