And we begin with a call for coast to coast taxes on sugary beverages.

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association

have long urged kids and teens to drink fewer sodas, sports drinks, and juice.

Now they want federal and state lawmakers to help their cause by making the drinks more expensive.

Consuming too many sugary beverages has been linked to adult diseases like type 2 diabetes, liver problems, and high cholesterol.

And nowadays, doctors are seeing these conditions pop up in younger patients.

In addition to asking for new taxes,

the two groups want stricter nutrition labeling,

less marketing to kids,
