Today is Friday, March 20th, 2026. And we begin with day and night going head to head today as spring officially begins.

The spring, or vernal equinox, takes place this morning at 10.46 a.m. Eastern time.

At that exact moment, the sun's rays shine directly on the equator,

resulting in equal amounts of daylight and darkness around the earth. From now until

the summer solstice, days will get longer and become generally warmer in the northern hemisphere.

For those sweating it out on the west coast of the U.S., it already feels like summer.

Dozens of new heat records were set this week, including in the Southern California town of North Shore,

which hit 108 degrees to tie for the hottest March day in the U.S. ever. That record may not

last long. The aptly named Desert Town of Thermal is expected to hit 110 later today.
