Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Monday, March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, 2025.

And we begin with Waren of the Green and celebrations of all things Irish. Even though St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, it's the U.S. that's home to the largest and oldest parade in the world.

New York City was the first to roll out the shamrocks way back in 1762, and today, 264 years later,

2 million people will line Fifth Avenue to watch bands, bagpipers, and dancers travel 35 blocks through Midtown.

St. Patrick wasn't Irish. He was born in Britain. The traditional meal of corn, beef, and cabbage is actually an American dish. The original color of St. Pats was light blue, and there are no

female leprechauns.

The weather for today's parade in Manhattan will be drizzle, but that's a whole lot better than what it was over the weekend. The wild winter storm we told you about last week

pummeled the U.S. from coast to coast with heavy rain, snow, windwip wildfires, dust storms, hail, and across the south,

tornadoes. At least 56 twisters were reported in seven states over the weekend. Among the hardest

hit towns, Bakersfield, Missouri, and Cave City, Arkansas. Both reportedly walloped by EF3 tornadoes

with peak winds of 140 miles an hour.

Another delay means a few more days in orbit for those two extended stay space station astronauts.

The replacement crew for Butch Wilmore and Sunni Williams didn't get off the ground until

Friday, which meant docking didn't happen until early Sunday morning.

But when it did, the new arrivals were enthusiastically welcomed by the existing astronauts, with one comically dressed as an alien.

Now that the official handover is underway, NASA expects it'll be able to bring Butch and Sunni home with a splash down

off the Florida coast as early as Wednesday.
