Many of the angles surrounding Dak Prescott's new contract so much to discuss so much to dive into and in particular I want to give you some of the big numbers here to give you a contextual analysis of what exactly is going on with Dak Prescott cowboys.

If you're just waking up and somehow you missed this yesterday afternoon evening cowboys are given Dak Prescott a four year 160 million dollar deal including a record $126 million guaranteed and the first three years average $42 million a year.

That four years 160 million which includes 126 million guaranteed also features a no trade clause and a no tag provision meaning that Dak Prescott effectively controls his future with the Dallas Cowboys the deal can be worth up to 164 million dollars and includes 66.

This is according to Adam Shepard 66 million dollars to sign and 75 million dollars in year one the most in NFL history also worth mentioning Dak Prescott happens to live in the state of Texas the great state of Texas where there is no state income tax as if life couldn't get me better for Dak of all the places that you could be living.

You know in the state of California for instance they take 13% of that the state would in the state of Texas zero now he has to pay is gets complicated be as to pay taxes based on where he plays games but you know you're playing eight games at least a year in Dallas and not having any issues there.

What about the cowboys cowboys have been basically a failure over much of the last 25 years cowboys 2021 title odds to win a Super Bowl still just sitting at 28 to one.

To win the NFC not sitting very high there either 13 to one they are however favored to win the NFC East I would say Washington is likely to be their biggest rival there and now we have to figure out what Washington is going to do at the quarterback position what is this mean in terms of Dak Prescott's overall place in the quarterback ranks he's now the second highest paid quarterback behind Patrick Mahomes Dak Prescott going to make 40 million dollars a year.

Patrick Mahomes averaging 45 million per year to Sean Watson 39 million Russell Wilson 35 million let me just say this the NFL has come under attack for for being racially discriminatory in the past several years the four highest paid quarterbacks in the history of the NFL now are all black Patrick Mahomes Dak Prescott to Sean Watson and Russell Wilson the four highest paid right now as well Aaron Rogers and Jared Gover.

The golf are both making 33 and a half million dollars by the way doesn't Aaron Rogers have to be like hey I know I'm getting a little bit old but maybe maybe I can get hooked up a little bit if dax making 45 million 40 million Patrick Mahomes making 45 million and I'm making the same dollars as Jared Goff.

I'm just saying if I were Aaron Rogers agent and I see these numbers coming out at the age of 37 or 38 you may not have a couple of years Kirk cousins by the way 33 million Carson wins 32 million Matt Ryan 30 million Ryan Tana Hill 29.5 million now it is also worth mentioning that part of these contracts is predicated on when these deals come up right so everybody is sitting if setting if you are a tie.

I'm going to say that's the top player a new high every time a new deal comes out because they are all building off of each other the salary cap not next year because that's going to be a challenge for a lot of teams but the year after is set to explode as these new television rights deals start to get factored into the mix and as the COVID hit to the overall revenues of the NFL begin to take a back seat but to me the biggest lesson here from Dak Prescott

is that we are effectively creating two different salary caps in the NFL.

There is one for quarterbacks and there's one for basically every other position and it's not just a quarterbacks if they are really good are making a ton of money it's that they're able to play forever.

The average NFL career is 3.6 seasons most guys in the NFL if they're really talented at any other position don't hit free agency more than once maybe in their career.

Dak Prescott at the end of this contract is still only going to be 32 or 33 years old meaning he is going to have an opportunity to potentially hit free agency all over again if he plays at a high level.

Over the next several years this is I think a testament to football fundamentally changing in terms of who gets rewarded and how well they get rewarded also if you are Jerry Jones the Dallas Cowboys owner now has a pretty completely consistent record of rewarding his guys for the work that they put forward for the Cowboys.

Now you can argue that Dak is going to be wildly overpaid here because I don't think there's anybody out there listening to me right now I bet there's not unless unless Dak Prescott's agent is listening or unless Dak Prescott himself is listening or maybe his girlfriend I'm not sure that there's anybody in America that believes that Dak Prescott is the second best quarterback in the NFL.

I'm not sure there is a single person that is not directly connected to Dak Prescott that believes that he is the second best quarterback in the NFL.

But Jerry Jones is paying him like he is why could that make sense partly because I think what's going on with Dak and we talked about this Lord knows enough on this show partly this is about compensating Dak for the fact that he was a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys starting for four years.

As a fourth round pick and made a total of about $2.1 million.
