Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori.

Today is Friday, March 8th, 2019.

And we begin with hundreds of millions of Americans getting ready to lose a little sleep this weekend

at 2 a.m. Sunday morning 48 of the 50 states will spring ahead by one hour

into daylight saving time.

Right away, you'll notice that it's darker in the morning when you wake up,

but stays lighter, later.

The original idea, adopted during World War I,

was to conserve energy. If the sun set later, we'd use less

electricity. That argument has since been debunked. The only two states that don't change

their clocks twice a year? Arizona, because it's so hot they want an earlier sunset,

and Hawaii, which is closer to the equator, so there's no significant difference between daylight hours in summer and winter.
