Summary

The February 2019 issue of Birding magazine is noteworthy not only for being the Bird of the Year issue, or for launching the 50th Anniversary of the ABA, but for another, less obvious, reason. February 2019 is the 100th issue of Birding for which Ted Floyd has been editor-in-chief. The 16 years that Ted has been in charge of the ABA's flagship publication have seen a lot of changes, not just in the way that the ABA has reached its members and the birding community, but for birding itself. Ted joins host Nate Swick to talk about how birding has changed over the years, and how Birding has changed along with it.

Plus, an update on the border wall and a Dark-billed Cuckoo in Florida.

0:46.9	Birding Association. I am Nate Swick. I wanted to start off this episode with a little bit of an
0:52.9	update to the last episode. If you recall,
0:56.3	I had Tiffany Kirsten on to talk about the current state of things regarding the proposed
1:00.7	border wall in the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. I got a lot of great feedback from that
1:05.5	episode. I want to thank you all for that first of all. But we tried to make that conversation
1:10.1	as relevant and as up to date as
1:12.3	possible with a disclaimer. Obviously, that things are, they're pretty fluid and liable, you know,
1:18.4	maybe probably even likely to change. And well, things have changed a bit. And I wanted to share
1:25.1	those updates with, again, the qualification that by the time that
1:28.4	this episode is published on February 21st, things might have changed once again. There is a lot
1:34.1	going on. One thing that probably will not change, and certainly the most important thing to note,
1:39.8	is that a bill to avoid another government shutdown was passed late last week and signed by the president.
