Summary

Today I'm joined by the fabulous Sarah Aspinall, Founder and Instructor of Breaking Ballet, to discuss one of my favourite topics - being passionate about what we do.Ā

We had a fantastic conversation about the challenging but rewarding path of following our dreams and passions. Sarah shared her own story of how she decided to leave her 9 to 5 job as a lawyer to return to ballet, her first love. We also talked about using passion as fuel to run our business, like a magnet to attract clients and as a repellent for failure.Ā

What You Will Learn In This Episode:

- Who Sarah Aspinall is and why she decided it was about time to pursue her passion

- How ballet helped her overcome a few issues when she was a child

- Why being passionate about what we do is crucial to run a business

- How a simple research can help us approach our business with integrity and help us decide if that is what we really want for ourselves

After a traumatic experience in New York for her birthday, Sarah started thinking seriously about how she was living her life. At that time, she was most of the time seated at a desk, feeling she was crushing her body and losing not only her fitness but her inspiration to move. She decided to reconnect with her body and tried all kinds of workouts, but nothing fulfilled her as ballet. She then decided to become a qualified ballet teacher, and after some time, started her business, Breaking Ballet.Ā

So I'm really happy to share it with you. We're going to talk about passion. Not in that way,

0:44.3

Dirty Minds. I can hear you all thinking that already. We're talking about passion in business. So I've got somebody with me who's going to have this conversation with us today. So I want to introduce you to Sarah Aspernel. Now, what Sarah actually does is she helps

0:49.4

women prioritize their health and well-being in ballet by using ballet to do that. But actually,

0:55.8

one of the things that's really evident when you talk to Sarah is how passionate she is about

1:01.5

what she does and about ballet in general. And so what I want to do is have a chat about why

1:08.4

passion is important in what you do because I see people every day

1:12.7

who are trying to run a business that they're not passionate about and it's much harder

1:16.7

1:21.9

No worries. I want to get straight into, you know, what made you, you changed your whole life around,

1:28.1

basically. You were a lawyer like me, but you did 10 years in law and then realized through a

1:34.6

series of events that actually you wanted to do something that you were passionate about

1:39.2

every single day. Tell us how that started that series of events. So just a brief bit of background,

1:48.0

I started dancing from the age of two. It was my absolute passion. I was a painfully shy child.

1:54.5

So ballet for me was the one thing that brought me out of my shell. It enabled me to perform.

2:00.8

You know, I was rubbish at talking.

2:02.5

If I had to put my hand up at school or a teacher asked me something, I was just so embarrassed.

2:06.4

So dancing was a way for me to express myself, I suppose. So it was the one place I felt really safe.
