Jerry Williams. I'm a retired agent writing crime fiction inspired by actual FBI cases.

In this episode I interview former FBI agent Terry Haig, who officially served seven years with the FBI.

However, his service to the Bureau, the Department of Justice, and other federal law enforcement

agencies actually spanned more than 23 years.

Terry is interviewed about working undercover as a crooked and corrupt defense attorney

in the largest public corruption case in America.

When the investigation, code named Operation Greylord, was initiated.

Terry was a young assistant state's attorney,

fed up with the corruption and the Cook County

Illinois court system.

Terry wore a wire for three and a half years fully aware that he could be

jeopardizing his reputation and law career in doing so. But at the conclusion of

the undercover operation, Terry testified in 23 trials during a period of 10 years and 83 judges, lawyers, court personnel, and policemen were convicted for accepting bribes to fix court cases.

Now, Terry and I got so deep into our conversation that we decided to make this a two-part episode.

So this is part one.

One of the reasons it ended up being so long is because I love this stuff.

Anything that has to do with greed, corruption, fraud.

I think it's because it's so personal. I mean when you decide to pay a bribe or ask for a bribe or to scam or to defraud, it's usually a one-on-one relationship. I love to talk about this stuff.
