Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kevin. Today is Thursday, February 27, 2025. And we begin with

two surprising revelations about the red planet. First, while not a prime vacation spot, Mars was

once home to an ocean, complete with waves and sandy beaches. A Chinese rover found the evidence

using below-ground imaging,

and another study is challenging long-held beliefs about the planet's color.

According to NASA, it shines red because of rusty-colored dust,

known as ferahydrite, which forms in cool water, rather than hematite, which forms in warm conditions.

Researchers say the findings suggest water may have been present on Mars longer than previously thought,

and the planet may have been cool and wet enough to support life in its ancient past.

Scientists plan to check their work when they retrieve Martian dust samples that are being collected right now

by the Perseverance Rover.

Barbie may love them, but they're definitely not art.

That's the ruling from a German court that shot down Birkenstock's request last week

that their sandals be labeled as such.

According to the BBC, the shoe company was hoping the classification could enable them

to use copyright laws to keep rivals from selling copycat versions of their cork-heeled creations.
