And we begin with flights over the mid-Atlantic getting a big boost from the wind.

At least three commercial aircraft clock speeds of more than 800 miles per hour over the weekend

pushed along by a 265 mile per hour tailwind.

A virgin Atlantic red eye from Washington, D.C. to London, arrived 45 minutes ahead of schedule,

and an American Airlines flight from Philadelphia to

Doha Qatar reached speeds of nearly 840 miles per hour, the second highest ever

recorded for an aircraft according to the National Weather Service.

Despite traveling faster than the speed of sound,

the flights did not break the sound barrier.
