Today is Friday, February 17, 2023, random acts of kindness day.

And we begin with a fun and easy way to help protect wild birds and their habitats.

Today kicks off the 26th annual Great Backyard Bird Count, sponsored in part by the National

Audubon Society.

It's a global citizen science project to collect data and update their conservation efforts,

and it relies on people just like you.

Last year, nearly 400,000 people in 192 countries help pinpoint 7,000 species.

If you want to participate, pick an outdoor spot like your backyard or a public park, and

spend at least 15 minutes during the next four days bird watching.

Then enter your findings in one of the Audubon Society's easy to use apps or websites.

Our adults, any better than kids when it comes to problem solving, scientists gave challenging

mental tasks to kids aged 4 to 12 and to adults, and then use brain scans to compare their

thought processes.

The new research reported in the Journal of Neuroscience shows that both groups use a

special part of their brains called the Multiple Demand Network to tackle these types of

challenges.
