Oh, the warnings were out.

There was a headline saying hate happens here.

One student who identified as black, queer, and gender queer had said in advance of my talk last night at App State University,

it really would be a disservice to myself and to my

community to stand by silently as this man comes to campus and says, very violent language. We're not

going to tolerate it. A protester in the 2 p.m. protest about six hours before the talk, a protester said that people use religious speech to motivate hate and aggression and violence, utilizing disruptive and horrible language.

For his part, he was there protesting, quote, to help combat that type of awful and toxic ideology.

Police were present.

People were tense.

And as I expected, the event was peaceful, quiet.

And there was a clear demonstration of the love of God.

And I've got to tell you about a comment from one gentleman

at the end of the night that was worth driving four hours round trip. Well, I was a passenger in the car,
