Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Tuesday, February 11, 2025. And we begin with

President Trump making it official. He wants to pinch the penny. We first brought you this story last

month when the lowly one cent piece caught the ire of Elon Musk, who's now in charge of

cutting government waste for costing three times its

value to make. Yesterday, President Trump announced he's asked the U.S. Treasury to stop producing new

ones. Supporters say, it's about time. It'll save money, speed up checkouts, and other countries

like Canada have already phased out their own versions of the one-cent piece.

Opponents worry it'll just make everyday items cost more, since stores will likely raise prices

to the nearest nickel. The farmer's almanac weighed in on the debate back in 1989 when it

wrote, only tradition explains our stubborn attachment to the penny, but sometimes traditions get ridiculous.

Teens use tech a lot, but don't necessarily trust it. The nonprofit organization, Common Sense

Media, surveyed kids from 13 to 18 and found nearly two-thirds think tech companies do not care about their

well-being and mental health. Slightly more than half said they do not think tech companies

can be trusted with their personal information. The survey also found about 40% of teens

who used AI for homework assignments found errors or made-up data. And nearly three out of four say they want
