Summary

Dollar vs. Gold: Why You Don’t Need To Panic & #1 Retirement Fear (and Ways To Let It Go) While recent headlines might suggest the dollar is "plunging" as gold and silver prices soar, Wes Moss provides a grounded perspective on why the decline, while significant, is still well within historical ranges, and why he believes our economy is still strong. Also, Wes dives into the top fear facing Americans: the fear of running out of money in retirement. As humans, we are wired to prioritize protection and survival, but letting this fear dictate your financial strategy can be counterproductive. Wes breaks down the research behind this common anxiety and introduces five actionable steps designed to eliminate financial dread and help you regain confidence in your long-term plan. Plus, Christa shares your #AskWes questions and Wes gives his take. All this and more on the February 3, 2026, Ask an Advisor episode of the Clark Howard podcast. Welcome to Ask an Advisor. I'm Krista Dibias here with Mr. West Moss.

0:09.7

Krista, you're in a great mood today and I'm excited to go.

0:11.8

Always in a great mood. Not true. But I definitely am today. And I'm excited to hear what

0:18.6

you're going to talk about. You're going to talk about a couple of things.

0:21.1

One is gold is surging, dollars kind of plunging, it seems. It's nice to take a word like

0:27.5

plunging and say, kind of. It's kind of plunging. Sort of. And also, you're going to, later on,

0:34.1

after we go to some questions, you're going to talk about our biggest

0:37.5

retirement fear. Right. And how to wipe that out of your mind, at least temporarily, and then rinse and

0:44.2

repeat and rinse and repeat. So you're not worried about it. And we are getting so many questions for you,

0:48.5

Wes. If you have a question for Wes or for Clark, you can go to Clark.com slash ask and just indicate if you would like Clark or

0:56.5

West to answer your question. We'll start with this. I've had a bunch of questions about it

1:01.4

over the past week, and it makes sense that people are worried about it because the headlines

1:05.8

are things like surging, plunging, surging, gold, silver, absolutely surging. And the value of the

1:14.7

US dollar I saw in several headlines is plunging. So the natural question is, it sounds like

1:20.6

an important thing that the very currency that we live our lives in is falling. Isn't that a

1:26.1

terrible thing?

1:30.3

And first, I think it's important to put it in context.

1:32.7

The U.S. dollar is not plunging.

1:35.8

The U.S. dollar is down a little over 1%. Okay.

1:36.6

Since when?

1:37.5

Over the last week or so, which is a big move for a currency as stable as the US dollar.

1:44.4

So 1% is a big deal when it comes to price action.
