And last week's episode, episode 16, I talked about the basics of what a bond is and what bond funds are.

Talked about their sort of use case in a retiree portfolio.

Talked about how they work, what makes their prices go up and go down,

and other things to consider with owning investing in bonds. Today, as promised last week, I want to

talk about some potential alternatives to bonds. Now, I'll be frank up front. My name's Andy, not Frank, but go with me here. I'll be frank.

There aren't any exact perfect replacement for bonds. There's a few different things I'll

discuss that I think could potentially play some of the role of what bonds do in a portfolio,

but nothing is bulletproof, unfortunately.

There is no magical unicorn of a product that's going to do everything you want and

needed to do as a bond replacement.

So let's just recap quickly what bonds are for in a retiree portfolio.

Many people think that bonds are there to throw off some meaningful amount

of guaranteed interest in all things considered, the bond or bond investment should be low

risk, you know, minimal if any risk of principal loss. They're just there to throw you off

some interest. Well, that's unfortunately not the case.

And it never was the case.
