Hey, welcome to episode 17 of the Juice Box Podcast. This episode is a conversation with a father.

He has four children. Two of them have type 1 diabetes. The other two are twins.

Bortemus. Matt is a guy who reads my blog or reached out and asked to be on the

podcast and then we had a great conversation so I hope you do the same.

Among a million interesting things that Matt's going to say over the next hour,

one of them is that his first child was diagnosed by a simple urine test during a well visit.

And I can't say how important it is for doctors to do the simple, easy, and inexpensive

tests at every well visit if your doctor is not doing them with your children who do not have type 1 diabetes, please ask them to do your child and every child that comes into the office.

It's a very inexpensive test. Insurance

will pay for it and finding out that you have type one before your blood sugar is

over a thousand and you're about to slip into a coma is a priceless gift.
