I'm here to tell you.

In my last episode, I made some significant errors when discussing Maui and his

legendary feats and it's been gnawing at me. I don't put out crap my friends, and it's never been my intention to

misinformed my audience. Well Paul what'd you screw up? Nothing. Nothing

because I fixed it.

I don't have it in me to catch myself in such huge mistakes,

throw up my hands and say, oh well,

and this is the truth. I got it wrong about several incredible things that Maui actually

did, which I mistakenly claimed he didn't. To explain, when I was writing the show doing my research, my research revolved around the

period of the long pause, myths and folk tales from the islands that have been discovered from that period.

I overlooked other myths from islands that hadn't been discovered yet.

I overlooked Hawaiian tales because Hawaii was discovered after the long pause, but where

Maui didn't push up the sky in Maori folklore, he did in the Hawaiian tales and it turns out my ignorance knew no bounds it's astounding even to me

Hawaii was settled in 800 to 1,000 CE by folks from the Marqueses islands, some from the

society islands like Tahiti. New Zealand, Aotearoa was settled sometime between 1200 and 13

CE. These first settlers were Polynesians hailing mostly from East Polynesia, the Society Islands

like Tahiti, or the Southern Cook Islands.

And these early explorers were part of the broader Polynesian expansion that swept across the Pacific leading to the settlement of far-flung places like Easter Island, Rappanuee, and Hawaii.

See, I was under the mistaken impression, and I don't know how I missed this, but I had it in my

head that New Zealand was discovered before the long pause, when in fact it was discovered
