Carlo Kallodi's classic children's fantasy novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio,

follows the misadventures of a living wooden puppet and his poor puppeteer father.

In the 19th century, children's literature was a new field in mass publication.

Increasing literacy rates helped establish the new art form which was for the first time

specifically aimed at young audiences.

It was originally published as the story of a puppet in the Jornal Parebambini or the newspaper for children.

Upon publication, it first ran as a serial featuring regularly in the Jernal four month period and it ended, let's just say abruptly.

And his publisher demanded he continue the story so he did and we'll get to all that.

As a young man, Kallodi joined the seminary,

however the cause of Italian unification usurped his calling.

Now the Italian unification was a political and social movement

that consolidated different states of the Italian

peninsula into a single state and became the kingdom of Italy.

Now this is curious to me and I plan to get to the bottom of it in my own time, but to keep from going off on a tangent,

I didn't do a lot of research there as far as this episode is concerned.

I know it started with Napoleon taking over and a lot of complicated stuff was going on.
