Welcome to Surf Splendor. It's Monday, October 21st, 2013. I'm your host, David Scales. Today we have an episode of Surf News with Scott Bass. But before we get into it, I'm going to play a conversation that I had last week with a guy named Timothy

Hogan. Tim is a surfer and commercial photographer. You may have seen some of his work. Most

recently there's billboards and print ads for beats by Dre headphones and a Budweiser

campaign for their new black crown beer. Those images were taken by Timothy.

He began a passion project over a year ago, photographing surfboard fins. The series is

just surfboard fins beautifully lit, white background, simple and beautiful. Through the course

of the year, Timothy has met a lot of shapers of these iconic

surfboards and the designers of their fins, and it has inspired him to capture their stories. He has

begun the process of producing a documentary called The Fin Project, and he is in the middle of a

Kickstarter campaign to fund the project. Here's my conversation with Timothy Hogan.

It came about because I was desperately looking for something to,

that was a little bit more soulful than the photographic work that I was doing.

You know, doing a lot of advertising work. It's a lot of really high energy.
