Not a ton of time to talk defense with Alejandro Zaniga here on the Michigan Insider on the Big 1050 WTK online at the big 1050.com. We could say they're going to be great. And the conversation could probably be over. But we want more analysis than that. And I think that Wink talked about this. They talked about this on the show on Friday. And there were the coaches and Jake Butt in particular. I didn't get anything from the other guys.

But the coaches and the players and what Jake Butt, so there's some good phrasing in there. I loved when he said that our defensive tackles are more bullies than athletes this year. I thought that was really good. But they talked about how it'll be, they could be great, but different or there could be a better, more, deeper., they talked about how good this defense has the potential to be. And they lost Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant. And I know you lost Will Johnson, but he didn't play a ton, obviously, towards the end of the year. But yeah, I am giddy over this defense. Giddy. I mean, it's a good thing we only left a few minutes to talk about it. Because there just aren't that many question marks, right? There's a lot to be excited about. But it's remarkable when you lose three top 50 picks in, you know, Graham Grant and Will Johnson, then throwing Josiah Stewart too. And to have so many kind of just check marks as opposed to question marks going into a season. Yeah, it's not going to look the same. Last year they had the athletes and bullies. They were the same. The guys were athletes and bullies at defense a tackle. And they're not quite that. But you have just the first three guys. If it's just, and I know they're going to go beyond that, but if it's just Raysham Benny and Williams and the other transfer, Pierce, I know, the other transfer, Payne.

If it's just the two transfers in, and not including Edda and Pierce and Awana, who are the next guys, if you're just talking about the first three guys, you have a thousand pounds of defensive tackle that you have the utmost confidence can eat blockers,

can stuff the run, and maybe not be the guys that are going to get sacks and wreak havoc,

but can be impactful in the past game and maybe open things up for the edge guys, et cetera.

But yeah, I am getting, like, it starts with the defensive tackles and the defense of line for me

between the seven guys or six guys that they defense of tackles and the defense align for me.

Between the seven guys or six guys that they have in the middle and the four edge guys,

the defense front is going to be nasty.

Yeah, it's going to be fun to watch.

The depth is really what comes across there more than anything else.

It's a little bit like, was it, Moneyball, where we can recreate them recreate them in the aggregate like they're not going to be able to recreate what Mason Graham and and

Kenneth Grant were just one to one like those were two very special people the gifts from the

football gods as Jim Harbaugh said over and over and over and they proved it from their

freshman year in Ann Arbor, and the guys that

they have now are just aren't that, right? Ray Sean Benny is very good, if not excellent.

I think he's really potentially close. Like, imagine him on a team that doesn't have those guys

last year. He might be getting more recognition, and he wouldn't be in school this year.

100%. But it's about the depth that they have, right? It's the fact that you can play 100% every single snap because you know that you have two, three guys behind you who are going to be playing. Give you three or four snaps. And then we'll give you a blow. Exactly. So I do, when you said the third guy, I mean, Trey Pierce is a guy that they are very, very excited about.

Because there's actually six or seven guys.

I just happen to say the Rayshan and the two transfers just because the weights that's

a thousand pounds.
