Summary

Today's episode is about how to work with our spouses without wanting a divorce. To help me answer this question, I brought Sam Johnson, my husband, as the first guest to the show. We talk about our experiences working together, what we discovered about ourselves and each other, and how we learned to identify and use our skills for the company's benefit. We also share some tips we believe are fundamental to make this business relationship work smoothly.

What You Will Learn In This Episode:

- How our first experience working together worked out

- The things we did wrong when we started Lisa Johnson Consulting business, and what we learned from them

- Which details helped us manage to work in the same house and to see each other all-day

- How acknowledging and respecting your individual skills help you make your business relationship better

Working from home, something that became very common during the pandemic, requires discipline, among many other things. When we work from home in the same company as our spouse, being in separate rooms is crucial, because it increases the feeling of "being at work," creates a healthy space, and we avoid seeing each other's face 24/7, which is never a good idea.

Welcome to today's episode. I'm going to tell you the truth about something.

0:28.1

And that is that I just recorded today's episode already. But what happened was I had the microphone

0:33.7

on mute. I'm telling you this so that you know that if you do things like this,

0:38.0

it's normal and that we can't always get things right. So today's episode is all about how to work

0:45.4

together without wanting a divorce, which means I've got my very first guest with me today,

0:50.4

and that is my husband and the founder of Sam Johnson copywriting, Sam Johnson. Welcome to

0:56.6

the podcast, Sam. Thanks. Nice to be back again. Again. So what we wanted to talk to you today is

1:02.7

just we get asked a lot about our working relationship and how we work together all day, every day,

1:07.4

and have done for about seven years and don't kill each other. And in fact, we never

1:11.6

argue. And so we wanted to just talk a little bit about what it's been like and why we think

1:18.0

it's working. So when we first started working with each other, it was actually in my first

1:23.0

business, which was a wedding planning business. And in that business, Sam was still working in his 95 and working for Carmelah weddings at the same time.

1:32.3

And we kind of shared the jobs out in a way that made sense.

1:36.7

So with me, I'd be doing the planning and Sam would be doing all the heavy lifting.

1:41.9

And some would be the person that talked nicer to the

1:47.1

suppliers. Yeah, it started off, didn't it? Like I was kind of the muscle. I'm losing that term

1:51.8

really loosely because I was never the muscle. But it was I would be the lugging stuff around,

1:56.9

the sort of logistical person, I guess. Yeah. But what we found quite quickly was that because of your mindset

2:03.1

and your kind of way of getting things done immediately,

2:07.1

you sometimes wouldn't necessarily use the right methods with the suppliers.
