I want to play something for you. You're hearing Sweet Willy Roll Bar by The Melvins, featuring my guest Dale Krover on drums.

Since 1984, Dale, along with guitarist and collaborator Buzz Osborne, have been the core of the Melvins,

one of the heaviest bands on the planet.

The Melvins can lay down big riffs and devastating beats with the best of them,

but they're just as likely to play a 20-minute song that moves so slowly, you might just lose your mind.

Even if you've never heard of them, you've heard of the bands they've influenced.

Remember the 90s grunge explosion?

Or metal bands like Tool, Mastodon, and Boris, the latter of which took its name from

a Melvin's song?

Or maybe you've heard of a little band called Nirvana.

Kurt Cobain was a deeply devoted Melvin's fan, and Dale appears on three Nirvana recordings.

Cobain repaid the favor by helping the Melvins get a major label deal.

In person, Dale is a laid-back family man, but his affable West Coast personality belies his massive presence behind the drum kit.

Many drummers thunderous, but Dale truly earns that

moniker. To see him live is to behold a drum god, a drum god who's more likely than not
