Summary

On today’s episode we are going to be talking about the four pillars of being a selfish mom. The four things that make mom’s tick if we can get all four of these in unison. Also, a little bit about the controversy about the name of my podcast. Here is what we will be discussing: Controversy and confrontation makes me very nervous Why did I pick the name I did for my podcast? Selfish is a positive thing! Yes, I would say I am very selfish but I live my life in a way where I am selfish in a selfless way The pursuit of mommy marterism is real! – let’s bring it down a notch When I am completely selfless I am worthless to everyone Pillar number 1: self-care-needs a routine around movement - take a walk, have a girl’s night etc. Also, make sure you are eating good foods and have a hobby. Pillar number 2: pursuit of your passion- establish goals to make a part time passion maybe a full time passion. Sometimes you have to give up some things to create space to do passion projects Pillar number 3: dedicated family time- this is a challenge for me! My mind does not turn off so it’s hard for me to step away from my projects. Pillar number 4: humor- let’s be honest none of this is easy. Chaos happens and life gets ahead of you. Expect messes. 0:31.9

selfish mom, the four things that really make moms tick if we can get all four of these things

0:37.1

working in unison.

0:38.4

We're also going to talk a little bit about the controversy of the title of my podcast, which I'm

0:43.7

excited to dive deep into. So stay tuned. We have a lot of fun plan for today, and I can't wait to

0:48.5

have you listen in. Okay. So first things first, I have to tell you, controversy and conflict make me super uncomfortable.

0:57.8

Confrontation is like my worst nightmare. It makes my skin crawl. So this funny thing happened when I started

1:03.1

talking about my new podcast, The Selfish Mom Academy. A lot of people were like, oh yeah, that's great.

1:07.9

I love it. I love you're using the word selfish and moms. And that was very validating for me. And I was like, oh, yes, pat on the back. Well done, Sarah.

1:15.2

You picked something that everyone loves. And then a few people said they didn't love it. And that made me

1:20.6

really nervous and uncomfortable. So historically, I'm someone who carries a lot of like guilt and just discomfort and stress and

1:31.5

anxiety if I feel like someone's dissatisfied with something. I've worked on that a lot over the

1:35.7

years. I've had to work on it as I've built up businesses. I've had to get a little bit thicker

1:38.7

skin. So I started diving in a little bit and thinking like, why am I upset that some people

1:43.8

don't approve

1:44.3

of this name? And their reasonings were really great. They actually had some really compelling

1:49.2

arguments. So some of the things I heard were, you know, why would you use the word selfish in relation

1:54.6

to motherhood? And why would you suggest that moms taking care of themselves is selfish?
