Christine Whiteley found the pond housing her fish, including exotic species such as

Coy carp and golden rud, covered in a thick white foam, suspected to be detergent.

Grandmother of four rushed to her garden at 7 o'clock in the morning on October 25th in a panic situation,

as she frantically scooped the fish out of the pond and started hosing them off with clean water.

She hastily constructed a makeshift fish tank out of her sinks, bathtub, wherever she

could keep water. It was all in vain. She tried to save the fish.

Some were more than two feet long, but tragically, all but one goldfish, now renamed Lucky, died.

The school of fish were buried in a mass grave on a family friend's farm.

Dug up by the neighbor's cat.

She said, I opened the gate and looked around the garden and thought, what in the heck is that?

It was like a big white bag had blown onto my pond. Then I thought, no way. It was basically all the bubbles from the detergent. I walked down. It was all foam. That's the best way I can describe it. The sheer size of these fish, we just could not accommodate them to put them anywhere in the house. So I got out the hose, tried to flush them.

Quite a few of them were still breathing, but their gills were very shallow.

I knew I was going to lose them.

She had some of those fish for 28 years.

Wow.

And tended her 18-foot-long pond every day.
