Hi and welcome to the American Birding Podcast from the American Birding Association.

I am your host, Nate Swick, and well, I think that there is a chance that this episode of the podcast is going to be listened to by more people than any of our previous episodes.

And I think that the reason for that is my guest, who is a real deal celebrity and also for, you know, for the purposes of this show, a real deal birder.

It gives me a chance to talk a little about birding and

celebrity and what it means for a celebrity to be into birding. You may not be aware that

there are actual celebrities out there who are birders too. There's actually a list of bird watchers

on Wikipedia, believe it or not, and there's a subsection called

Bird Watchers Famous for Achievements in Other Fields.

And while Wikipedia is often a pretty good resource for these sorts of things, this list

is a, it's sort of a mishmash.

It includes names like John James Audubon, who died, of course, in 1851, and former president

Teddy Roosevelt.

So maybe it's not the most currently relevant list, but in any case, it does include some

names that you might recognize.

Steve Martin, for one, who was in the movie The Big Year, but I honestly, I had not heard

that he had kept birding up.

Sean Bean of Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings.

He's British.

Birding's a bigger deal over there.

So maybe he's a birder and I didn't know it.

There are also things like Cameron Diaz, musicians like Mick Jagger, Van Morrison.

I don't know quite what to make of all that.
