Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Monday, January 13, 2025.

And we begin with dueling rocket launches by the two richest men in the world.

Overnight in Florida, Jeff Bezos and his Blue Origin company were expected to try and close the space race gap with Elon Musk's SpaceX by test launching their own giant

new Glenn rocket for the first time. Named in honor of legendary astronaut John Glenn, it's

almost as tall as Mr. Musk's 400-foot starship, but has a bigger nose cone and can carry

larger satellites. Unless something changed, Blastoff was scheduled for 1 a.m.

Musk and SpaceX were expected to answer that launch with one of their own this afternoon from

Texas, but late yesterday pushed their seventh test of Starship to Wednesday. Starship could be

used to ferry astronauts to the moon as early as next year, and Mr. Bezos

wants in on the action. He's also planning to build a new private space station, lunar rover,

and space tug to move satellites around in orbit. Now to the fire lines in Southern California

where those perilous Santa Ana winds are expected to whip up all over again.

They tapered off a bit this weekend, giving crews a fighting chance.

But starting today through Wednesday, forecasters predict they'll regain strength and blow as high as 60 miles an hour.
