Good morning, and welcome to Kid News! I'm Tori. It's Wednesday, January 11, 2023, and

0:07.6

we begin with some encouraging news about the planet. The Earth's protective ozone layer

0:13.9

is on track to recover within decades, according to a United Nations' back panel of experts.

0:19.9

The ozone layer is important because it helps protect our planet from harmful ultraviolet

0:25.6

rays, but scientists noticed that layer was disappearing in the 1980s, so a widespread

0:31.8

ban was put on the production of chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, which

were mainly found in air conditioners, refrigeration, and in products that came in spray cans,

1:35.9

The family decided on the second option, telling the New York Times, he hasn't bothered

1:40.1

us at all, so we feel like there's no reason to move him. However, they are no longer letting

1:45.2

their dog loose in the backyard just to be on the safe side. No engine? No problem. A teenage

1:52.8

pilot flying his grandma and two cousins lost all power while near the San Bernardino forest

1:59.2

in Southern California last week. He's only had his license for four months, and because of the terrain,

couldn't even mayday the local airport for help. And that 18 year old Brock Peter says meant
