Homily from the Baptism of the Lord.

Jesus changed the water. Now the water changes you.

Why was Jesus baptized? Not because He needed it, but because we need it. We need baptism to be saved, to be children of God, and to be in a new and real relationship with God.

0:00.0	So on the piece of the baptism of the Lord, one of the questions that comes up, I think
0:07.0	is a question that I've been asked a lot, and I've even asked the question, is, so why
0:10.4	did Jesus have to get baptized?
0:11.5	We know why we have to get baptized.
0:12.7	We have to get baptized because we need it.
0:15.1	What did Jesus need to be baptized?
0:16.9	And kind of the short answer that's come back in the last 2000 years of the church has

0:29.2	So John was, clearly, John was baptized and we just heard that in the gospel today.

0:33.3	But when Jesus allowed himself to be baptized, when Jesus submitted to that, when he surrendered
0:36.2	to that, he did something to the waters.
0:38.2	And that's crazy thing is this, since he did something to the waters, now the waters do
0:41.5	something to us.
0:42.5	And this is remarkable.
0:43.5	Like when it comes to our baptism, I'm not sure if you've ever reflected on your own baptism,
0:46.8	but it's worth it.
0:47.8	It is worth recognizing that baptism actually changes us.
0:51.7	It actually does something.
0:52.7	In fact, St. Peter says, baptism saves you now.
0:55.1	In fact, St. Paul's uttered to Titus.
