At about the time that Thera was destroyed by its volcanic eruption, the Mycinea and Greeks were just beginning to emerge into their civilization stage, after several centuries of learning from the more advanced Minoan culture to their southeast.

They were the up-incomers, and it was perfect happenstance that the Minoan's commercial prowess

was weakened significantly by this volcano.

A few centuries later, the war-hungry Mycenaeans put the final nail

in the proverbial man knowing coffin and ungratefully repaid their cultural teachers by invading Crete and taking over their power centers.

To answer these questions, let's first backtrack a bit and try to piece

together a historical narrative of Mycenaean society and their insurgency from the 16th century

Our knowledge of Mycenaean society is pieced together from the evidence of Linear B tablets

and the archaeological remains, as well as Homer, albeit with a certain

level of skepticism attached.

Towards the end of the middle Halatic period, we see a significant increase in population and a number of

power centers emerged in southern and central Greece dominated by a warrior elite society.
