It is time to continue with the Michigan football offensive breakdown, Sam Webb.

We're just right now here on the Michigan Insider on the big 1050 WTKA.

There are some real wrinkles, some real wrinkles in the run game.

You mentioned some innovative things with the insert.

And that was a great sort of, sort of nuance.

I mean, Michigan is no stranger to inserts, right?

I mean, you can think of the insert with, hey, speaking of Ohio State, right?

Zach Zinner, the Zach Zinner injury, the Blake Corum play that he scores on, the next play was an insert.

It was an insert.

Let's talk about what that is for a second, Sam, just so the fans that have not been exposed to it.

An insert zone is kind of reverse isolation play where there's a zone being run, let's say, to the right.

Okay.

And rather than zoning the entire line of scrimmage and cutting off the backside in with someone like on a split zone or reading that player,

what they do is they block the back to defensive linemen and insert a tight in or a fullback or somebody on the inside lineback,

or they're not, that separates the defense a little bit more and gives the back more options

where now you can, you can press in behind that zone blocking.

If you see that there's division in the defense, the insert hits clean, you can take the ball back.

So it's got another dimension to it.

Yeah. And so normally that the insurter, Ben Bredesen, or whatever, whoever you have

working as your insurter is in the backfield. Oh, in the backfield or off the ball on the

tight end side.

That too, they didn't show it in that game.
