Episode 4. Imagine for a moment this scene. You, a fox and a frog are each standing at the bank of a large pond.

A fish leaps from the water and splashes down, sending ripples in every direction, which eventually

lap over your toes, the fox's claws, and the frog's face.

There's a concept in both science and philosophy called naive realism that suggests in a moment like this one the fish hanging in the

air the splash down the consensual cripples all of that appears in your

mind exactly as it really is someone Some would go so far as to say,

the frog and the fox also see the exact same scene

in the exact same way that you do.

That is to say,

objective reality, the stuff outside of your head,

matches perfectly one-to-one with subjective reality,

the stuff you feel, see, touch, taste, and smell

inside your head.

Now you're going to meet many people today who actually, you know, they still think this is true

that what you see is what truly is, that what goes into your eyeballs is what is out there.

But science has obliterated this idea

over the last century.

The idea of naive realism probably seems funky to you

and that's good.

You're in good company because scientific

evidence suggests that the frog sees and experiences a completely different world
