Michigan freshman men's basketball player Trey McKinney, five star out of the great city of Flint, Michigan had a great debut last night for the Michigan men's basketball team.

He comes off the bench.

He was, what, the third player off the bench for the Wolverines.

He played just under 28 minutes. He was 7 of 10 shooting overall. He was 6 of 8 shooting from 3.

He finished the game with 21 points and 4 assists. And he had a really nice debut.

Needless to say, for the Michigan Wolverines. So the 5 star from Flint,

he made that great debut. He met with the media after the game and spoke to us for a few minutes. So let's get to Trey McKinney following last night's game and his impressive debut for the Michigan Wolverines. Now here on the Michigan Insider. So Trey McKinney now here in the Michigan Insider on the Big 1050 WTCA. Being here at all the games, all the home games last year, and now, you know, I'm just playing here. And, you know, I'm really just excited to be around this talented team. Once you see one going, does it sort of get bigger? It looks like who got a bit bigger there for you. Yeah, definitely. I feel like when one goes in, it gives me a little bit more confidence to, you know, look for my shot a little bit more. But, you know, I just came in and, you know, got in rhythm and, you know, I let it come to me. Obviously, weren't in a rhythm in the exhibition, but how much did you need that time to just sort of get used to the speed, the size, and those sorts of things to have a night like this? Yeah, you know, I mean, we had a speaker coming, and he was preaching process over outcome. So I just tried to stick with that. And, you know, there's going to be some bumps in the road. You know, college is tough. So I'm just happy to be able to get in rhythm. Who are the teammates that you lean on as mentors, whether that be on the quarter or off the court?

Definitely, Rodi, Namari, those guys, they've helped me a lot, you know,

especially with stuff that I wouldn't know because, you know, their bets and they've been in college for a pretty fair amount of time.

So I think they've really helped me a lot since coming in in the summer. What sort of things have they helped out? Just being able to keep my head, you know, when stuff goes wrong, you know, not drop your head, just keep going. But, you know, really just the intangible things, you know. I think just having a great group of guys like that in front of me or, you know, on the team with me has helped me a lot.

What was the key to beat in that zone?

You guys have to score 121 points.

I mean, we've practiced on it, you know, just shot fakes, ball fakes, eye fakes.

I mean, and I mean, shooting helps as well in the zone, so definitely.

What was it like seeing in and then the crowd was chanting his name and everything?

No, that's amazing when guys like that get to get in.

Because, you know, they're on the scout team and they do as much as us in practice.

So I feel like just those guys being able to go out there and play. It's great to see. Seven guys scoring in double figures. I mean, it's right how you guys draw it up. But what does that say about this team that guys can fill up? This team is deep, you know, and really everybody didn't even play. So, I mean, this team is going to be a really good team.

We have a really deep team this year.

It's going to be really excited.
