football season. So what I'm further ado, Mr. Weintraub, take it away.

It is now time for the first time this year to get to the countdown to the 2025 Michigan football season.

We are 100 days away, 100 days away until the Michigan Wolverines return to the field on Saturday, August 30th, when they host New Mexico at Michigan Stadium, 100 days until the start of the Michigan football season.

100 days. And what we do on 100 days is we talk about some guys that didn't have numbers when they played here back in a day for the University of Michigan.

So the first guy in our countdown, 100 days out is Irving Pond,

who was born May 1st, 1857. Irving Pond was from Ann Arbor. His house was located where the Michigan

Union now sits. He was an engineering student at Michigan from 1875 to 1879. He played football

in 1879, the first year of Michigan football. and Irving Pond scored the first touchdown in

Michigan football history. He graduated in 1879 with a degree in civil engineering. He became

an architect. He moved to Chicago. He designed numerous buildings for Ann Arbor and Detroit. He

renovated Detroit Opera House in 1887. He and his brother, Allen's most famous building was Jane

Adams' whole house. And he designed the Michigan Union and numerous other buildings and unions around the Big Ten, including Purdue, Michigan State in particular.

He was a bachelor until he was 72 years old.

Irving Pond was so close to his brother that he did not marry until his brother Allen passed away.

Irving Pond then was married in 1929 and then passed away in September 29th, 1939.
