Ever tried fixing something with the wrong tool . . . like using a butter knife instead of a screwdriver? That’s how some people live their lives. They keep trying to fill the emptiness with stuff – money, relationships, success – but nothing really works. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, from a recent Harvest Crusade, Pastor Greg Laurie points out that Jesus is the one who can actually fix what’s broken. If you’re tired of pretending you're fine, this is one message you need to hear. Erase your doubts when it comes to life’s ultimate question: Do I have eternal life? In this message, we’ll see what fruits those who really have Heaven awaiting them bear. Notes: Focus verse - 1 John 5 READ: 1 John 5 (NKJV) #1 Marks of a True Believer The Greek word John used here is “nikao.” Conquering will not be proven by your arrogance, words, or feelings, it will be proven by your actions. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37 (NKJV) READ: 1 John 5:1–2 • Faith that Jesus is the Christ, and that He is the Son of God • Love for God and His people • Obedience to the Word READ: 1 John 5:3 (NKJV) How you know: Faith, love, and obedience ... These are not prerequisites to being saved. They are products of being born again. #2 The Evidence for Our Faith 1 John 5:6–12 The Water, the Blood, and the Spirit Incarnation is the doctrine that Jesus was fully God and fully man. You don’t just know about the truth… you feel it, sense it, and live it. Do you have the Son? 1 John 5:12 Jesus is not a step in the process. He is the whole process. #3 Standing in Victory 1 John 5:13–21 Confidence in salvation gives you confidence in prayer. Prayer isn’t about getting what we want; it’s about aligning with what God wants. READ: 1 John 5:16–17 If you are standing in victory, you need to help pull others out of defeat. READ: 1 John 5:21 Whatever you do, don’t let anything take Jesus’ place in your heart. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. God is bigger than whatever you're facing in life right now. But not only is He all-powerful, but very loving. In this message, Pastor Greg Laurie teaches on God's deep love for you, faith in the storm, and much more. Notes: Focus verse - 1 John 4 There will be more false prophets and false messiahs in the last days. “Don’t believe every spirit. Test them, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1 The bible speaks of the spiritual battle we are engaged in. The bible tells us, “To take up the whole armor of God.” Hebrews 13:2 Read 1 John 4:1–3 #1 We are in a spiritual war. Antichrist will be a real person, a world leader; he will deceive the world. John was refuting Gnosticism. Gnostics believed salvation came through “hidden spiritual knowledge,” not Christ. To be a Christian, you must believe that Jesus was born of a virgin and was God among us. He was fully God and fully man and He died on the cross for our sins. He bodily rose again three days later, and He will come again. The purpose of 1 John was so we could know God, and so you could know you have eternal life. I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 (NLT) John uses the word ginosko for 'know'. John is saying, “there is no secret knowledge, you can know this now.” #2 God is bigger and greater than everyone and everything. 1 John 4:4 God is greater than Satan, greater than sin, greater than your problem. A. Moses at the Red Sea God said, “I will fight for you, you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14 B. David and Goliath Goliath was big, but God was bigger. C. The disciples on the Sea of Galilee Jesus was bigger than the storm. #3 If we really know God, we will love others. 1 John 4:7–11 #1 God is light. 1 John 1:1–2:2 #2 God is love. 1 John 2:3–4:21 #3 God is life. 1 John 5 Light and love are inseparable, as are truth and grace. Light exposes darkness. Love reaches out to the people in darkness. #4 God’s love is greater than our worst fears. I John 4:18 This is simply having the confidence that you are loved and forgiven by God. He lovingly will guide your life and one day welcome you to heaven. If you are living in fear, especially fear of judgement, you have not yet grasped what it is to be loved by God. Jesus absorbed God’s wrath for you. #5 God will never stop loving you. Romans 8:38–39 Fears change with the passing of time. God has something to say to us at every stage of life. #6 Our love for God is a response to God’s love for us. 1 John 4:19 God’s love is what draws us to Him. We’re remembering that love moved in, and fear had to move out. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. There are some ways to tell if you’re really walking right with Jesus—John lays it out for each of us. But even if you aren’t, we’ll see how to handle that as well. Listen in and get your spiritual checkup now. Notes: Focus verse - 1 John 2 Read 1 John 2:1–6 #1 How’s Your Walk? 1 John 2:1–6 Sin is serious, but Jesus is our Advocate. It’s not if you sin—it’s when. The question is, “How will you respond?” Read 1 John 2:3–4 Are you walking toward Jesus? Are you alongside Him? Or are you name dropping as you walk the other way? Propitiation: the means by which sins are forgiven. Read 1 John 2:7–11 #2 How’s Your Heart? 1 John 2:7–11 Sometimes it’s easier to love a God you can’t see than it is to love the person next to you. Anyone who claims to live in God’s light and hates a brother or sister is still in the dark. 1 John 2:9 (MSG) Redemption means giving the love you never received, because God gave it to you first. The compassion Christ showed you is the same compassion you’re called to show them. If your heart is constantly cold toward others, if your instinct is to isolate, criticize, or cut people off, or if you cling to your grudge like an emotional support animal, maybe it's not them—it's you. Read 1 John 2:12–17 #3 What’s Got Your Heart? 1 John 2:12–17 Your spiritual health is not a matter of perfection, but direction. Jesus isn’t saying that having wealth is the problem. He’s saying being owned by it is. There’s nothing wrong with having possessions, as long as your possessions do not possess you. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:17 (NKJV) --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org.
