Corinthians reminds us what love really looks like when we're not listening to the world. Love, as God defines it, is patient, kind, and more. We risk undressing it when we don't listen to Him, even if we mean well. Guest Pastor Tony Clark challenges us to check our hearts and examine how we reflect Christ. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. As we witness a growing hunger for spiritual truth in our culture, we have to ask—are we on the edge of another Jesus Revolution? Pastor Greg Laurie shares why he believes we just might be. Notes: Focus verse - Nehemiah 9 Could this be the start of another spiritual awakening? The objective of proclamation evangelism is to clearly preach the gospel and invite people to Christ. Isaiah 43:19 (KJV) Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? Acts 2:17 (NLT) 'In the last days,' God says, 'I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.’ Psalm 85:6 (NLT) Won't you revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you? Younger men are more likely to become Christians than younger women. Is this another national spiritual awakening? I hope and pray it is. Gen Z has the highest suicide rate of any generation. Teens regularly use AI companions instead of human interaction. The only hope for this generation is Jesus and, for that matter, any generation. #1 In the US we have had four great spiritual awakenings. The first one happened in America before we were a nation in 1740. George Whitfield’s preaching drew massive crowds. The first Great Awakening didn’t just change hearts, it helped shape the moral DNA of the United States. America is exceptional. America is unique. America has been established by God. George Washington was quick to give credit to God for his success on the battlefield. #2 The second Great Awakening occurred during 1790s to 1840s and was led by many, including Charles Finney. #3 The third Great Awakening in America was from about 1857–1859. This revival began when a 48-year-old businessman named Jeremiah Lanphier began a prayer meeting on Fulton Street in New York City. “Revival is the rekindling of a flame, and when the fire is lit, it doesn’t just warm the church—it lights up the world!” —David Jeremiah #4 The fourth Great Awakening was the Jesus Movement. #1 Revival is coming back to life. Revival is refreshment; it’s restoration; it’s returning to original condition. Psalm 80:19 (ESV) Restore us, O LORD God! Let your face shine, that we may be saved! A revival is when God’s people come back to life again. A spiritual awakening is what America needs. Revival is what the church needs. Revelation 2:4–5 (NKJV) "…you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works,” #2 Revival is waking from sleep. It’s turning from sin. God’s prescription for revival or restoration is in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Read Nehemiah 9:1–4 (NLT) #3 If we want to see revival, we must pray with passion. Matthew 15:22 (NLT) "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is possessed by a demon…" We need to pray like early church prayed for Peter to be delivered from prison. Acts 12:5 Fervent means displaying passionate intensity. #4 If you want to see revival, you must confess your sins. We all have sins to confess each and every day. 1 John 1:8 (NKJV) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. A sin of commission is doing what you should not do. A sin of omission is not doing what you should do. James 4:17 #5 They separated themselves from ungodly influences. #6 They heard God’s word, and they acted on it. The Bible is our model for how we ought to think and to live. John 15:14 (KJV) You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you. God told Joshua the secret to success. Joshua 1:7 (NLT) #7 Revival always leads to evangelism. The evidence of revival is a changed community. Acts 2:41 (NIV) Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. John 4:35 (NIV) “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” New believers need older believers to stabilize them. Older believers need new believers to energize them. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Guest speaker Dr. Jeremiah Johnston, a renowned New Testament Scholar, empowers us today with believed historical evidence supporting our faith. He brings our attention to the Shroud of Turin, a captivating artifact believed to have an imprint of Jesus' image. Dr. Johnston shares that it provides compelling evidence for Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. Hear his case for why Jesus is, in fact, "the man of the shroud." Notes: Focus verses - John 20:1–8 The Shroud of Turin is evidence for Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. The Bible is about real people, real places, and real events. We need to know how to defend our faith. Christianity's closest cousin is archaeology. The Shroud of Turin is the most studied archaeological artifact on the planet. We have enough evidence to believe in the resurrection. It's believed that the light power emitted during the resurrection imprinted the image on the cloth. All 4 gospels mention Jesus' burial cloth. The Shroud matches the biblical description of Jesus' wounds and death. Serious scholars and experts believe The Shroud is authentic. The Shroud has been deeply studied. Max Frei-Sulzer's pollen analysis suggests the relic spent time in the Middle East. Science today still cannot explain how the image is on the cloth. The evidence most powerfully points to one conclusion: Jesus is "the man of the shroud." Have you stumbled in your faith? Jonah did, too. But today, uncover the power of God’s grace and mercy in your life with an encouraging message from Pastor Greg Laurie. Notes: Focus verses: Jonah 3–4  The real story is about how God used a flawed man to bring a revival.  Jonah was called to preach to Ninevah, which God described as a great city (Jonah1:2). Jonah refused, and the Lord sent a great wind on the sea. (Jonah 1:4). Jonah was thrown overboard and was swallowed by a great fish (Jonah 1:17).  The ultimate story of Jonah is of the great God who showed great love.  #1 Jonah had a great message.  Jonah’s preaching brought revival.  Jonah 3:1–2 (NKJV) Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you."  Nothing happens through you until it has happened to you.  Read Jonah 3:2–4  Jonah’s message was very simple, yet these eight words were important to God.  Romans 1:16 (NKJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.  The bible says, “Christ died for our sin” (1 Corinthians 15:3). He did this to bridge the gap between us and a holy God.  Jonah delivered his simple message as we must deliver ours.  Our message must be delivered with urgency. (Jonah 3:4)  Jonah 2:1–2 NKJV Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly. And he said: "I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, and He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and You heard my voice.” God had delivered Jonah from a hopeless situation.  There was an urgency and a passion to what Jonah was doing,  Romans 9:3 (NLT) For my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed— cut off from Christ!—if that would save them.  Remember how Jesus looked over the city of Jerusalem and wept. Luke 19:41–42  “Winners of Souls must first be weepers of souls.” —D. L. Moody   Our message must be clear and definite.  Mark 12:37 (NKJV) And the common people heard Him gladly.  Our message is not simplistic, but it must be simple.  Our message should be authoritative.  Jonah’s message was an unapologetic biblical directive from God Almighty.  #2 There was a great response.  Jonah 3:5 (NKJV) So the people of Nineveh believed God.  The greatest revival in the history of the world came to Nineveh because Jonah preached God’s message and not what the people wanted to hear.  There was hope in Jonah’s message.  John 3:16  If God could bring a mighty revival in Nineveh, He surely can do the same thing for America.  Read Jonah 3:4–10 (NLT)  This is a stunning spiritual awakening!  An entire city turning to God.  It was a great message. It was a great response. Now, we come to a great contrast.  Read Jonah 4:1–4 (NLT)  Jonah 4:4 (NLT) The LORD replied, "Is it right for you to be angry about this?"  Sometimes people worry about new believers not changing quickly enough.  Some believers have just stalled and stagnated.  Sometimes people will wonder why a good God would allow bad things. Jonah wonders why a good God would allow good things—especially for bad people.  Read Jonah 4:5–7 (NLT)  Jonah missed the miracle because he was too worried about his own comfort.  #4 The great commission today is “Go into all the world and preach the gospel” (Mark 16:15 NKJV).  There is nothing like seeing thousands of people coming to Christ. It truly is a taste of Heaven.  Luke 15:7 (NKJV) "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.  If God would open the window to Heaven for a brief glimpse, how we would change. If he opened the window for a glimpse of Hell, we would change even more!  Jonah 4:10–11 Then the LORD said, "You feel sorry about the plant, though you did nothing to put it there. And a plant is only, at best, short lived. But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn't I feel sorry for such a Great City?" --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Pastor Jonathan Laurie shares lessons from the story of Jonah, a reluctant evangelist who ran from God’s calling. Notes: Focus verse - Jonah 2 Matthew 23:25–27 (NKJV) “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.  “Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.  “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.”  Jonah 4:3 (NLT) “Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.”  #1 God Appoints Circumstances to Bring Us Back  Sometimes we think God is punishing us.  God paid Jesus back for our sin.  Jonah was a historical, biblical character. 2 Kings 14:25  Matthew 12:40 (NKJV) “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”  God appoints circumstances and storms. Not to pay us back, but to bring us back.  #2 God Still Sees in the Dark Jonah 2:1 (NLT)  Read: Jonah 2:1–9 (NLT)  While Jonah sat in darkness inside the great fish, he prayed. God heard and delivered Jonah out of his fishy prison.  Psalm 139:11–12 (NLT) I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.  Israel worshipped one God — the true Creator.  Romans 12:1 (NKJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  Read: Jonah 2:10 –3:5 (NKJV)  #3 Saved From and Saved For  God rescued Jonah from darkness so Jonah could reach others in darkness.  2 Corinthians 5:18–20 (NLT)  Mark 16:15–16 (NLT) And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.    Romans 10:14 (NLT) But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? Discover how to overcome hesitation and share your faith boldly with Pastor Greg Laurie’s new series, "The Reluctant Evangelist," exploring the story of Jonah. Notes: Focus verse - Jonah1 #1 CHRISTIANS HAVE BEEN CALLED TO EVANGELIZE. #2 WHY DON’T WE SHARE OUR FAITH MORE? THE FEAR OF REJECTION OR OFFENDING SOMEONE. WE DON’T SHARE THE GOSPEL DUE TO OUR LACK OF CONFIDENCE OR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCRIPTURES. 1 PETER 3:15 THE OBJECTIVE IN EVANGELISM IS NOT TO WIN THE ARGURMENT, BUT TO WIN THE SOUL. ABOUT HALF OF ALL AMERICAN ADULTS SAY THEY’RE SOMEWHAT OPEN TO HAVING A CONVERSATION ABOUT FAITH OR THE GOSPEL WITH A STRANGER. WE DON’T SHARE OUR FAITH BECAUSE WE DON’T REALLY CARE. PEOPLE DON’T CARE ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU KNOW UNTIL THEY KNOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE. 2 TIMOTHY 2:26 EFFECTIVE SHARING OF ONE’S FAITH STARTS WITH A CONCERN AND A BURDEN. JONAH ACTUALLY DID HATE THE PEOPLE GOD CALLED HIM TO PREACH TO. #3 JONAH WAS THE RELUCTANT EVANGELIST. JONAH WAS NOT JUST RELUCTANT, HE WAS RECALCITRANT. READ JONAH 1:1–3 "…FOR THEIR WICKEDNESS HAS COME UP BEFORE ME." JONAH 1:2 NINEVAH, A CITY OF THE ASSYRIANS, WAS LEGENDARY FOR ITS CRUELTY. THE NINEVITES WERE THE AVOWED ENEMIES OF ISRAEL. THIS WOULD BE LIKE GOD CALLING AN ISRAELI TO GO PREACH TO TEHRAN. GOD LOVES THE PEOPLE OF IRAN. THEY ARE SUFFERING UNDER A CRUEL AND AUTHORITARIAN ISLAMIC REGIME. WE ARE HEARING STORIES OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF IRANIANS COMING TO CHRIST. GOD TAKES NO PLEASURE IN THE DEATH OF THE WICKED. EZEKIEL 33:11 CHRISTIANS WANT TO SEE PEACE IN THE LAND. #4 WE HAVE OUR MODERN NINEVAHS. GOD HAS NOT GIVEN UP ON CALFORINA. THE BOOK OF JONAH IS ALL ABOUT SALVATION- THE SALVATION OF SOME PAGAN SAILORS FROM A STORM. THE SALVATION OF A DISOBEDIENT PROPHET. THE SALVATION OF ONE OF THE MOST WICKED CITIES ON EARTH. GOD SEEMS TO GO OUT OF HIS WAY TO FIND THE MOST UNLIKELY PEOPLE TO USE. LET’S CONSIDER MOSES’ RESPONSE WHEN CALLED BY GOD TO SPEAK FOR HIM. EXODUS 4:10–13 JEREMIAH FELT HE WAS TOO YOUNG. THERE IS NO GOOD REASON YOU CAN OFFER AS TO WHY GOD CANNOT AND WILL NOT USE YOU. GOD IS NOT LOOKING FOR ABILITY. HE IS LOOKING FOR AVAILABILITY. JONAH REPENTED OF HIS SIN. HE CALLED ON THE LORD AND GOD HAD MERCY ON HIM. JONAH 2:10–3:2 GOD’S ORDERS ARE THE SAME FOR US AS THEY WERE FOR JONAH. THE METHOD IS THE SAME TOO. THE GREAT COMMISSION IS, “GO INTO ALL THE WORLD AND PREACH THE GOSPEL.” GOD HAS CHOSEN VERBAL COMMUNICATION TO REACH PEOPLE. ROMANS 10:14 THERE ARE ONLY TWO ROADS IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: THE ROAD OF OBEDIENCE OR THE ROAD OF DISOBEDIENCE. #5 THE REASON JONAH DID NOT GO WAS BECAUSE OF A FEAR OF SUCCESS. JONAH 4:2 #6 WE NEED TO GO TO PEOPLE WHO ARE UNLIKE US. IF GOD BROUGHT REVIVAL TO NINEVAH, IMAGINE WHAT HE CAN DO TODAY. START BY PRAYING FOR THEM AND NEVER STOP CARING FOR THEM. GOD CAN SAVE ANYONE AND WANTS TO SAVE EVERYONE. 1 TIMOTHY 2 #7 SHARING OUR FAITH CAN BE EXCITING AND FUN! JESUS TOLD US THERE IS JOY IN HEAVEN OVER EVERY SINNER WHO COMES TO REPENTANCE. LUKE 15:7 THERE IS A HAPPINESS THAT WE ARE MISSING OUT ON IF WE ARE NOT SHARING OUR FAITH. ACTS 20:35 EVERY STEP AWAY FROM GOD IS ALWAYS A STEP DOWN. WE FAIL TO REALIZE GOD’S PLAN FOR US IS BETTER THAN OUR PLAN FOR OURSELVES. LETS’ COMMIT TO PRAY FOR PEOPLE THAT DON’T KNOW THE LORD.
