Welcome to Explorers. Today we are going to take a look at one of the most unusual journeys of exploration and history, and that is the eight-year

trek of Alvar Nunez, Cabeza, Devaca through the southwest of the United States and Mexico in the 1530s.

Cabeza-Davaca's journey, which will encompass thousands of miles, is unique because the man never set out to explore.

In the wake of the failed expedition of Panfilo de Narvaise, Cabeza de Vaca was stranded on the coast of what is modern day Texas, and he would spend years living and wandering through the American Southwest in Mexico trying to return home.

In truth, his trek was not really an expedition of discovery, but one of survival.

Yet in the end, it is recognized as one of the most amazing journeys of discovery that the world has ever seen.
