John the Baptist is one of the great characters of the Bible. His purpose was simple,

to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Jesus himself said of John

that he was the greatest of those born of women.

This greatness was not in himself, not his personality, not talent,

but his greatness was in his task, introducing people to Jesus.

Music Now as he leads us in a study of this great man. Sometimes when you read the Bible, it is tempting to think that the Bible characters somehow had greater insight or understanding than we do.

But in fact, the reverse is actually true because we have the complete word of God.

We have the finished revelation.

So you look at a man like John the Baptist who we've been journeying with for these last many days,

and you think, wow, what an opportunity he had, and certainly he did.

And yet, is it possible that you have a greater opportunity than John the Baptist did?

We've been talking about John the Baptist witness and how God used him to set so much in motion.

And while all of that is true, I would take you back to the words of Jesus in Matthew chapter number 11.

The same verse where he said that among them that are born of women, thereeth not risen

are greater than John the Baptist. That same verse, Matthew 1111, he says, notwithstanding,

he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Now, how is that possible?

How is it possible that we could be greater than John

the Baptist, that we could have a greater impact than John the Baptist? A friend, you have the same work

as John the Baptist, and that is the work of pointing other people to Jesus Christ. But you do

have something John didn't have. You have a full understanding of the gospel

message. You have the indwelling Holy Spirit, and you have an ascended Christ who has seated at the
