The whole neighborhood was definitely quiet and dark. This part of our story takes place in the

late 80s and a sleepy bedroom community in the Midwest. It was kind of eerie because typically in

that neighborhood there's multiple street lights, people's lights on on different porches and so on.

There was none of that. Steve Smith was a captain of the local police department
