Summary

Join me every Monday for a quick burst of inspiration on our “Monday Moments” segments.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ― Leo Buscaglia

Today, I invite you to view others, challenges, and meltdowns through the lens of compassion. When others put their heads down and step away, be encouraged instead to lift yours and step forward. Realize not only the profound magnitude of generosity but the truth that you can be its epicenter.

difficult to control. So my sisters constantly fanned me as I sat in a wheelchair. And as one of six

1:02.5

kids, when my family arrived, we made quite a boisterous entrance in any restaurant in any room.

1:09.2

I was reminded of those days, those entrances,

1:12.6

those stairs, when I heard about the experience

of Cynthia Tipton.

1:16.6

It's an experience she had at dinner

1:18.6

with her family at a restaurant here in St. Louis recently.

1:22.0

Her son, Nolan at the time, was 10 years old,

1:24.8

and he lives with high functioning autism. It can be difficult to control his

1:29.7

emotions and on this day a little teasing from his sister set him off. Nolan started screaming.

1:38.0

Cynthia quickly knelt beside him, stroked his back and began whispering in his ear, hoping to calm him before the other families at

1:45.7

dinner were interrupted. Well, it wasn't working. The screams intensified. A few more minutes into

1:53.9

soothing her son passed before the crying finally quieted. Nolan finally relaxed and the other
