Summary

Especially with a new puppy, you’ll hear 20 times a day, play with your puppy, exercise your puppy, stimulate your puppy so they don’t get bored, bond with them to create a strong relationship…

OK OK, we get it’s important but after 160 games of fetch things get a little…well, boring.

In this episode, I’m going to go through 10 ways to play with your dog. And this is just to get you started, it doesn’t stop here, not even close.  In reality, there are hundreds of ways to play with your dog. I want you and your dog to get creative and take it from here.

With the cold weather settling in here in NJ I decided to concentrate on indoor activities.  It’s easy to take things outside and get all the exercise and entertainment you need. It’s when you’re stuck inside that things get harder.

No matter what activity we do with them, we are entertaining, stimulating, and bonding with them.  It’s tiring them out that can sometimes seem impossible.    That is why I also focused on ways that will up the exercise and tiring out factor.  At the end of the day (literally) what we want is a tired and happy dog!

Your dog will probably have their favorites.  I hope you can find something you love, your dog loves AND gets everyone to sleep!

Let’s get those creative juices going!!  Press play to listen and enjoy!!

talk about some things to be prepared for as your puppy gets older. So these are behaviors that can start around

0:45.1

adolescents and into their adulthood. So if you have an older puppy maybe you're

0:51.7

already experiencing these.

0:54.4

So just like our kids, our puppies are going to go through

0:59.8

little bouts of rebelliousness as they get older. It's just part of them growing up, growing into maturity

1:08.0

and for some you can breeze right through this stuff and not even notice, others it's almost like a

1:15.1

little monster has possessed your sweet adorable puppy. Now in general this can happen around five or six months between nine and ten months

1:27.0

and then somewhere between 12 and 18 months and even that timing can vary from puppy to puppy and from dog to dog. But there's a few things going on here.

1:39.0

Yes, naturally as your dog gets older, they're going to start to push some boundaries.

1:44.9

And even though they know the rules, they might try to see how much can they get away with.

1:50.1

Because sometimes, the rules just aren't fun.

1:53.2

And the other thing that's also happening that doesn't help

1:57.6

is that each of these, I mean think about it, around five or six months,

2:01.8

that's right around where potty training is getting easier, so we start giving them a little bit

2:08.4

more freedom. And the more freedom we give them, the more trouble they can get into.

2:14.3

Now I'm not saying don't give them freedom.

2:16.8

Right now I'm just explaining why this can happen because that's going to help us

2:21.6

when we get to how do you handle it. And the same thing can happen

2:25.7

around nine or ten months. You know, they've learned some of the rules, you're

2:30.6

starting to trust them a little bit more and they're getting more freedom.
