Summary

Especially with a new puppy, you’ll hear 20 times a day, play with your puppy, exercise your puppy, stimulate your puppy so they don’t get bored, bond with them to create a strong relationship…

OK OK, we get it’s important but after 160 games of fetch things get a little…well, boring.

In this episode, I’m going to go through 10 ways to play with your dog. And this is just to get you started, it doesn’t stop here, not even close.  In reality, there are hundreds of ways to play with your dog. I want you and your dog to get creative and take it from here.

With the cold weather settling in here in NJ I decided to concentrate on indoor activities.  It’s easy to take things outside and get all the exercise and entertainment you need. It’s when you’re stuck inside that things get harder.

No matter what activity we do with them, we are entertaining, stimulating, and bonding with them.  It’s tiring them out that can sometimes seem impossible.    That is why I also focused on ways that will up the exercise and tiring out factor.  At the end of the day (literally) what we want is a tired and happy dog!

Your dog will probably have their favorites.  I hope you can find something you love, your dog loves AND gets everyone to sleep!

Let’s get those creative juices going!!  Press play to listen and enjoy!!

0:16.8

host Debbie Salinto. Hello and welcome to episode 44 of your new puppies podcast. I'm Debbie and today we're going to

0:35.6

talk about car sickness or motion sickness with dogs because this is a

0:41.4

really simple topic that can get complicated quickly.

0:46.0

It is very common for puppies to get sick in the car.

0:50.0

Their bellies are very sensitive, they're not used to the motion, it's something that's new to them,

0:58.0

so it's very common. And the good news is, is the vast majority will grow out of it. The bad news is that if it happens a little too often, your

1:08.6

dog will start to have a bad association with the car in general.

1:14.0

And then we get stuck in this loop because the only way to fix that is to bring them for

1:19.3

car rides, but when we break them for car rides they get sick and so then we're actually

1:25.0

reinforcing the bad association so it gets kind of complicated and it gets hard

1:30.2

to change so we'll talk about how to do that if your dog already has a bad

1:35.4

association with the car because of their car sickness. But first, let's talk

1:42.0

about how to avoid it.

1:43.5

So before we jump into some tips I have

1:46.2

to help your dog from getting car sick,

1:48.9

because this is a physical reaction

1:51.6

to the motion of the car. So there's nothing we can train out of them

1:54.9

but we can try to help them not get sick essentially and help them feel better in the

2:01.7

car before we get into, just a couple notes about car safety and the dog.

2:06.0

So the dog should never ride in the front seat.

2:09.0

I don't care how big your dog is or even if they're strapped in,
