0:19.0 | First, let's settle and together with the sound of the bells. Okay, so the mindful way to work with urges. First, let's just talk about what an urge is. |
0:52.3 | Well, I'm defining this broadly and an urge can be |
0:56.6 | any sort of a sense of volition toward something, an impulse. I want to eat this food, I want to say this thing, I want to do this |
1:08.4 | instead of that. We experienced these throughout the day many, many times and in many different contexts. |
1:17.0 | And a big part of personal growth, personal development, living a life in alignment, |
1:24.2 | living responsibly, even authentically, |
1:27.4 | requires being able to manage these urges |
1:31.1 | that might take us off our path or cause us to do one small thing |
1:36.1 | that's out of alignment that can become a snowball effect or just manage different unhealthy urges throughout the day, |

1:47.0 | that extra piece of dessert |
1:50.0 | when, yeah, I probably don't need it, but I just really want it. |
1:54.0 | It's often that feeling of like I need to do this. |
1:57.0 | Then it could be in relationship to an addictive setting as well, |
2:01.0 | such as for a cigarette or something else that you you struggle |
2:06.6 | with on a day-to-day basis. So this is what I'm talking about when we're talking |
2:10.6 | about urges and our usual way of thinking about working with urges is one of |
2:20.5 | willpower and self-control. |
